Privacy Policy
The Gita Project respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
You can use the app without creating an account. When you first open it, the app creates an anonymous account with no name or email attached, so your favourites and reading progress are saved.
Information we collect
Information you provide
If you choose to sign in, we may collect:
- Email address
- Authentication provider information, such as Google Sign-In, Sign in with Apple, or email sign-in
- Basic profile details shared by your provider, such as a display name or profile image from your Google account
If you never sign in, none of this is collected. Your account stays anonymous.
App activity and preferences
The app stores information about how you use its reading features, including:
- Favourites
- Reading progress
- Last viewed lesson or section
- App preferences, such as theme, onboarding state, and notification settings
This is kept on your device and in our database under your account, anonymous or signed in, so the app can remember where you are. When you sign in, it syncs across your devices.
Usage analytics
We collect limited information about how the app is used, such as screens opened, features selected, scrolling, and content completion. We use this to understand which parts of The Gita Project are helpful and to improve the app.
Analytics may include app version, device and operating system type, an anonymous identifier, session timing, and approximate region inferred from the network connection. The app never asks for your phone's location. We do not use this information for advertising or to track you across other companies' apps or websites.
We do not record your screen, network requests, search text, private content, sign-in credentials, or push notification token in product analytics. If you sign in, analytics is connected only to an internal account identifier, never to your name or email.
You can turn analytics off at any time with the "Share usage analytics" switch in Profile. Turning it off stops future collection immediately.
Crash and performance data
To keep the app reliable, we collect crash reports and performance diagnostics. These may include the error and stack trace, app version and build, device and operating system context, a short trail of recent app actions, a pseudonymous installation identifier or internal account identifier, and approximate city and country inferred from the network connection. They do not include your name, email, screen recordings, request contents, or sign-in credentials.
Notifications
If you turn notifications on, the app registers a push token for your device and stores your notification preferences so we can deliver them. This works whether or not you sign in, and you can turn notifications off at any time in Profile or in your device settings.
How we use information
We use information to:
- Provide the app and its core reading experience
- Save favourites and reading progress, and sync them across devices when you sign in
- Maintain your account session
- Send notifications you have turned on
- Understand aggregate usage and improve the app
- Find and fix crashes and reliability problems
- Respond to support, privacy, or deletion requests
We do not sell your personal information. The app contains no ads and does not use an advertising ID.
Third-party services
The app uses a small set of services to provide its functionality:
- Supabase, for authentication, database storage, and syncing of your data
- Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple, if you choose to sign in with those accounts
- PostHog, for product analytics, processed in its European cloud region
- Sentry, for crash and performance diagnostics, processed in Germany
- Firebase Cloud Messaging, for delivering push notifications
These services process information on our behalf according to their own privacy policies.
Data sharing
We do not sell personal data. We share data only with the service providers above, which help operate the app, or where required by law.
Data security
We use reasonable safeguards to protect user data. Information transmitted between the app and our services is sent over secure network connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information responsibly.
Data retention
Data cached on your device remains there until you clear the app's data or uninstall the app. Account data is retained while your account exists or as needed to provide the app's features, and you may request deletion at any time. Usage analytics and crash diagnostics are kept only as long as needed to understand usage and maintain reliability.
Account and data deletion
You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting sai@thegitaproject.world. Please include the email address associated with your account so we can identify it.
We may retain limited information if required for legal, security, fraud prevention, or compliance reasons. See our account deletion page for the full process.
Website
Our website is served by Vercel, which processes the standard technical request information needed to deliver its pages.
Children
The Gita Project is not directed to children. The current target audience for the app is adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above.
